Squadron Gin
After pressing the grapes for the wine, there were quite a few residues left. These residues still contained so many aromas that it would be a shame not to use them anymore! At the Montepertini winery, they immediately saw an opportunity to make another product, a gin.
This is a 100% local gin with ingredients such as juniper, lemon, basil, thyme and rosemary. Distillery Het Aerts Paradijs was hired for the distillation.
On 12 May 1940, the plane of sergeant-pilot Fred Marland is shot down and crashes into the embankment of the Albert Canal, at the current Heseputterstraat. It was part of 5 Fairey Battles of No.12 Squadron of the RAF that flew out to destroy the iron bridges in Vroenhoeven and Veldwezelt.
A few hundred metres further on, the grapes of our wine estate are ripening today. The perfect breeding ground for this Belgian gin, which was therefore given the appropriate name "Squadron".
