Heer van Biesen
The official town beer of Bilzen - whose name refers to the last inhabitant of the district commandant's office, Alden Biesen - has a golden-blonde colour and tastes full-bodied and strongly bitter. The maximum alcohol content is 7%. It is a unique beer with a completely different yeast than the classic Belgian beers. The addition of Brettanomyces gives it a shelf life of 4 to 5 years. In the meantime, the beer continues to ferment and the flavour and alcohol content develop. The beer lover can therefore choose between a young and an old version. In 2015, Heer van Biesen won a silver medal at the World Beer Awards.
