What makes this city so special?
Unique. A word that is undoubtedly used a little too often. But not when it comes to Bilzen-Hoeselt. That is primarily due to its location. You literally stand with one foot in the Kempen and the other in Haspengouw . Coincidentally, two of the most beautiful regions of Flanders and Belgium.
Heaven for cyclists and hikers
That is not the only double whammy: in Bilzen-Hoeselt you can explore no less than two official parks . The Munsterbos is one of the most popular destinations in the Hoge Kempen National Park , the first of its kind in Belgium. Good for 12,000 hectares of top nature, with 440 km of hiking trails, 200 km of unpaved trails for mountain bikers, extensive riding facilities and of course the cycle route network. This quintessential Limburg invention still makes us very proud.
Recently, the recognition of the Hart van Haspengouw Landscape Park followed. That too is a wonderful mix of nature, recreation, heritage, open space and fruit, lots and lots of fruit. Just like in the Hoge Kempen National Park, Bilzen-Hoeselt plays a leading role in the concept. Just think of the Landcommanderij Alden Biesen , the largest castle complex between the Loire and the Rhine. The blossoming period is always an unforgettable experience. How could it be otherwise: nowhere else in the wide area have the typical high-stem orchards remained as intact as in Alden Biesen.
Perfect location for a weekend away
Moreover, Bilzen-Hoeselt is the ideal base for a weekend in Limburg and the Euregio thanks to its extensive catering and accommodation options. Tongeren, Hasselt, Genk, Maastricht, Liège or Aachen: from Bilzen-Hoeselt you can be with our great neighbours and back in no time.
By the way, did you know that the shops in Maastricht are open every Sunday afternoon? Perfect to quickly score a souvenir for those at home. But the most beautiful gifts can be found in the shops in Bilzen-Hoeselt or the tourist reception centres in Alden Biesen and the historical town hall on the Markt.
We said it before: in Bilzen-Hoeselt you always win. See you soon!
